The Team - Net Matrix Finland Oy
History of our team goes way back to 1980’s when we took our first steps in programming with such classic personal computers as Vic-20, Spectravideo and Memotech. We programmed part-time throughout our studies and later on, with several non-commercial, freelanced and just-for-fun projects under our belt we established Net Matrix Finland Oy in 1996. Founding members were Petri Ervasti and Ville Kiiskinen, and later addition, Jukka Kurkela. Early on we focused on the emerging Web development and outsourced programming. Our first major project was graphical control software for professional treadmill equipment used by long distance runners and perhaps bit surprisingly, race horses. Software was developed with Borland Delphi ™ and ran on Windows™ platforms and it's still in use in Finland and in Japan. After forming the company, NMF (Net Matrix Finland) was immediately hired by a publishing company Ten Point Press Oy. NMF took charge of their IT structure and R&D program while still doing programming for other customers. In cooperation with Ten Point Press we pioneered first completely web-published version of monthly published magazine ‘MEKAKS’. First web-published issue was in February 1996. Around 1998 Ten Point Press needed to expand their classified ads business but the existing IVR systems were too cumbersome and limited in functions for efficient expansion. In response, NMF started to develop a completely new breed of IVR/SMS/MMS software. At this time NMF got its 3rd member, Jukka Kurkela, who completed the know-how pool with his strong database knowledge. The IVR project soon grew bigger and in 1999 we formed a joint company called Northman Matrix International Oy. We continued to be in charge of R&D in this new company and as continuation to the IVR project we started to create AMS (Active Media Services), an advertising platform designed to handle classified ads for media companies.
AMS bridged the gap between IVR, SMS, WWW and WAP submitted advertisements and made it possible to categorize, efficiently target and export ad material daily to hundreds of different print publications as well as to WWW, WAP and several different teletext broadcasts. AMS is a marriage of several different technologies as the development spanned over 7 years. Client-side development was mainly done with RAD tools such as Borland Delphi and C-Builder while core services were written with Microsoft C/C++. Also .NET was heavily later in the development. AMS uses primarily Microsoft SQL Server and interacts with Oracle databases when Atex integration is in use. AMS platform also includes propriety content management(CMS) system which was created for automated WWW and WAP publishing. CMS was created using PHP, JavaScript and ASP. Offshore installations of AMS platform include Dagens Nyheter, Sweden and Bangkok Post, Thailand. We departed from Northman Matrix Intl. in 2005 and returned to Net Matrix Finland to do outsourced development. During the last decade, our highly adaptive team has done projects with various versions of C, C++ and .NET, Java, Object Pascal, used various scripting languages such as JavaScript, PHP and VBScript to implement web solutions and occasional Microsoft Office™ solution. And while our primary operating system has been Windows™, we are no strangers to Linux™ development and administration, a system we have embraced since version 1.x. We are up to every challenge. Our motto is "If it works on a computer, we can do it" |
